“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7
Worry rarely announces itself. It slips in while you are washing the dishes, or lying awake at 3 a.m. running tomorrow through your mind for the hundredth time. By the time you notice it, you are already carrying it, shoulders tight, jaw clenched, bracing for something that has not even happened.
Peter does not tell you to pretend you are fine. He uses a stronger word: cast. Throw it. Hand it over the way you would hand someone a load too heavy to hold alone. Worry whispers that if you just think about it long enough, you can control the outcome. Faith answers that the outcome was never yours to carry, but it has always been His.
And the reason is tucked into four small words at the end of the verse: because he cares for you. Not your situation in the abstract. You. The God who holds the galaxies also holds the very thing keeping you up tonight. You were never meant to carry it alone, so name it in prayer right now and place it into His hands.
A prayer
Father, I bring You the worry I have been carrying alone, and I choose to hand it into Your hands. Thank You that You care about the small things and the sleepless things. Quiet my heart, and help me trust that You are already ahead of me. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
